Four Easy Cricut Upcycle Projects

CATEGORY

In celebration of Earth Day and as a way to show support for environmental concerns, I am sharing four easy Cricut upcycle projects. It is so easy to upcycle things around the house with your Cricut machine and a great way to show off your creativity. I don’t know about you, but I always gain a sense of pride when I find ways to reuse things around the house instead of throwing everything in the garbage immediately.

Some of these projects are more of a winter, cozy theme compared to the spring Earth Day timeframe, so feel free to pin these projects for later. Otherwise, I hope you are able to use the Cricut tips and tricks used in these tutorials to make your own Cricut creations.

EASY CARDBOARD UPCYCLE PROJECTS WITH CRICUT

First, I want to show you how easy it is to upcycle flat cardboard with your Cricut machine. Flat cardboard is the type of cardboard used for food packages such as cereal boxes. Unlike corrugated cardboard, flat cardboard does not have any air pockets and is thin. I have successfully cut flat cardboard with the Cricut maker and Cricut Explorer Air 3.

These bunnies were cut out of flat cardboard and added some color with iron-on vinyl. This post is a perfect place to start because I review the basics of cutting flat cardboard with Cricut and how to get past cutting issues as flat cardboard can come in a variety of thicknesses.

Next is another example of using flat cardboard with the Cricut machine and I used the tutorial in the above photo link to create this out of a frozen pizza box.

In addition to cutting the flat cardboard with my Cricut, I also cut patterned cardstock to bring out a spring, Easter vibe to this décor sign. I applied the cardstock with glue and added rolled flowers from Cricut Design Space. Search 3D flowers in Cricut Access to find a variety of rolled flower options.

These DIY cozy mittens are another fun way to use flat cardboard. This Cricut project uses images from Cricut Design Space to cut a shape from flat cardboard. Next, the shapes are wrapped in yarn for a super cozy look and topped with a glitter iron-on vinyl heart.

Yarn pom pom’s are so much fun to make and are great additions to banners or garland. In this tutorial, I show you how to create a yarn pom pom template out of flat cardboard using your Cricut machine. The free yarn pom pom template cut file can be used with your Cricut machine to draw the template or to cut the template.

BABY FOOD JAR UPCYCLE WITH CRICUT

Moving on from flat cardboard, here is a baby food jar upcycle project. This one holds a special place in my heart because these little jar ornaments hold the hats my little girls wore in the hospital when they were born. How sweet! I’m so thankful I get to enjoy them each holiday season.

These DIY jars combine adhesive vinyl and cardstock all cut from my Cricut machine to create adorable keepsake ornaments.
